ESSC welcomes New Chair, Professor Roberto Battiston

The European Space Sciences Committee (ESSC) is delighted to announce that Professor Roberto Battiston has formally taken up the role of Chair. The handover took place in the inspiring surroundings of Cumberland Lodge during the ESSC’s 70th Plenary Meeting in January 2026.
Professor Battiston brings to the ESSC a distinguished record of scientific leadership, vision, and commitment to advancing Europe’s role in space research. His appointment marks an exciting new chapter for the Committee as it continues its mission to provide independent, authoritative advice on space science to European institutions.
During the plenary, Professor Battiston delivered a highly motivational opening address that set an ambitious and forward-looking tone for the years ahead.
