Interests

Planetology & the Geology of Mars

Jonas coordinates the activities of the Europlanet Society, the main planetary scientific community in Europe and actively contributes to the organisation of the Europlanet Society Congress (EPSC), the largest scientific conference on planetary science in Europe. He is managing ESF’s contribution to the EC-funded Europlanet 2024 Research Infrastructure project. Jonas also contributed to several studies for the European Space Agency and for the European Space Sciences Committee

Jonas is a planetologist and Earth geologist by training. He holds a PhD in Planetology from the University of Nantes (France) and a Master of Science in Geology and Engineering from the University of Lorraine (France). Before joining the ESF, Jonas worked as a field geologist and project engineer in the mining industry in various parts of the world, as well as a collaborating scientist on the NASA Mars Science Laboratory mission.
