MAURO MESSEROTTI has been permanent-staff researcher at the National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF)-Astronomical Observatory of Trieste since 1987, adjunct professor of Methods for Image Processing, and adjunct professor of Meteorology and Climatology of Space at the Department of Physics of the University of Trieste for two decades. He was associate scientist to the UltraViolet Coronagraph and Spectrometer (UVCS) payload on-board the SOHO (SOlar and Heliospheric Observatory) spacecraft, and responsible for the design and realisation of a science and operation prototype payload for solar photometric observations and spacecraft orientation detection for the ITAMSAT spacecraft, a microsatellite of the Italian Radio Amateur community. He is guest investigator of the UV and WL solar coronagraph METIS on-board the SOLar Orbiter (SOLO) with the coordination of the development of the METIS Operation Software Integrated Platform, and co-founder of PicoSaTs, a spin-off of the Department of Physics of the Trieste University aimed at providing specific support to multi-module nanosatellites via, e.g., the development of high-performance radio communication systems, the design of an innovative, modular, polymeric bus, and Space Weather monitoring from LEO. Senior Advisor for Space Weather at the Science Directorate-National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF), and Chair of the Group on Space Weather of the INAF-Science Directorate, he has participated in many working groups that produced white papers on Space Weather and Space Domain Awareness at the national (ASI, Italian Space Agency), European (COST Projects, ESF/ESSC/ESWAAC, NATO Science and Technology Organisation), and worldwide level (WMO, World Meteorological Organisation, and SCOSTEP). Specialist in solar radio physics and its application to Space Weather monitoring with special attention to solar RFIs to GNSS, he has been responsible for the Trieste Solar Radio Weather Centre, and involved in exploring the use of LOFAR and SKA in this framework. As of 2021, he has reached the status of Senior Research Associate in INAF. From the academic year 2023-2024 he is a lecturer of the national doctorate in Space Science & Technology with a course on Space Weather and Space Climate.

In the academic year 2023-2024 he was lecturer in Meteorology of Space at the invitation of the Luiss Business School (Rome) in the module “Contemporary issues in management” within the Executive Master in Advanced Management – Major in Space Economy.
