XAVIER LURI is Full Professor at the Department of Quantum Physics and Astrophysics at the Universitat de Barcelona, where he teaches physics and astrophysics and has supervised several PhD. He is also the director of the Institute of Cosmic Science ot the Barcelona University (ICCUB/IEEC).

His research combines work on space missions, astrophysics, and scientific data processing; the main focus of this research is astrometry, with a significant participation in ESA’s astrometric missions Hipparcos and Gaia, but also including involvement in several other space projects, from science missions like PLATO, EUCLID to local projects of micro and nano satellites.

He is presently a member of the Gaia-DPAC (Gaia data processing consortium) executive committee, where he has been manager of the DPAC Coordination Unit 2 (data simulations) and now he is manager of the Coordination Unit 9 in charge of the design, implementation and operations of the data archive. He has been Principal Investigator of several projects of the Spanish National Plan dedicated to the development of Gaia data processing, and also coordinator of the European project GENIUS FP7 dedicated to the development of tools for the Gaia data archive. Nowadays, he is co-PI of the Gaia group in Barcelona.

He also enjoys public outreach of science as speaker, articles, and books author and as member of Big Van Science group. He is also founder of DAPCOM SL, a UB and UPC spin-off company, where he participates as a scientific and business advisor.
